My name is Chris Barrett, I am from the south-west of Ireland and I am deeply passionate about the natural world.
I have always had a profound interest in the polar regions and have been fortunate to embark on three seperate expeditions above the Arctic Circle.
Aside from photography, I work on EU projects in relation to climate, alongside implementing nature based solutions through my local environmental group, the Knocknagoshel Environmental Association.
Achievements:
- Winner of the Brian Black Award in Environmental Journalism
- Winner of a funded place on the Ocean Warrior Arctic Expedition, after a 3 day selection process
- Winner of Fjallraven Polar competition to join a 300km dog sledding expedition in the Arctic
- Qualified Outdoor instructor, including sea kayaking, rock climbing and trail cycling
- Qualified to operate a powerboat/zodiac (National Powerboat Certificate, Irish Sailing)
- Award-winning science communicator
- Strong experience in delivering workshops around Ireland on photography
- Deep passion for Antarctica, with a particular interest in the history and ecology of the area.
- Currently enrolled in the postgraduate study of offshore Ornithology
